Joel Schellhorn

Composer & Audio Tool Designer

MusikDesign | Spatial Audio | Interactive Sound Art

Born in 2002 and raised in a world surrounded by Latin and jazz, Joel Schellhorn's musical path began with classical violin at age 6 and quickly evolved into a passion for composition by age 12. Over the years, Joel's curiosity led from traditional instrumentation to generative music, audio production, and FOH engineering.

Now based in Trossingen, Joel studies Musikdesign at the Hochschule für Musik Trossingen, where they specialize in audio programming and interactive music systems. Their suite of spatial audio tools have gained recognition for their specific use-case focus, leading to numerous interdisciplinary collaborations.

As a core member of the löhr-kollektiv, Joel works at the intersection of electroacoustic, spatialised, and interactive music. Their projects span museum installations (Donaueschingen Art+), upmixing algorithms, and immersive pieces like Mild Inconveniences, premiered at ZKM’s nextGenerationX festival.
